Tyre explosion at Preston industrial unit kills man

A man has died after being injured when a heavy goods tyre exploded in Lancashire. According to BBC News reports, the incident occurred at just around 10:00am on 21 February on the industrial estate where Red Scar Tyres in Preston is based.

Carrying breathalysers to be compulsory in France

The Institute of Advanced Motorists is warning that from 1 July this year all drivers visiting France will need to carry a breathalyser kit in their cars, as French drivers will have to. From November there will be an €11 fine for not complying with this. With a start date for the new measure of 1 July 2012, the rules will apply for anyone travelling to or through France by car in the summer holiday season, even just for a day trip.

Environmental award for BluEarth-1

At this month’s Pneu Expo 2012, Yokohama’s flagship eco tyre the BluEarth-1 was awarded a Pneu Expo Innovations Trophy. Trophies were given for excellence in one of three categories: environmental actions, shop equipment innovations, and service innovations. The Japanese tyre maker was awarded the trophy for environmental actions, recognising the BluEarth-1’s contribution to bettering the environment through improved vehicle fuel economy.

Trio of Conti tyres earmarked for Geneva launch

No less than three new passenger car tyre ranges are scheduled to be launched at Continental’s Geneva Motor Show stand. The German manufacturer hasn’t named the models it intends to unveil next month in Geneva, however it says the three lines are a new summer tyre for subcompacts, compacts and mid-size cars, a new winter tyre for the same vehicle categories, and a new winter tyre for electric cars.

  1. Check tyre tread depth.
  2. Check correct tyre pressure.
  3. Ensure there is no irregular wear e.g. wheel alignment.
  4. Always remember to check overall condition of tyres, including inner and outer sidewalls.
  5. Check that your spare tyre is safe and ready to use in case of any emergency.
